Day 8,Sunday, August 11/13
Situated behind Qeqertarsuaq is Greenland’s most infamous
glacier, the Jakobshavn Glacier – where the melting ice fronts gather at the
terminal moraine. We hiked across moss covered landscape, on a designated
pathway for about 3 kilometers, to this
spectacular moraine where huge icebergs were moving at a fast pace, all
crashing, melting and breaking before our eyes, evidence of the increasing rate
of ice melt in Greenland. I have
traveled all seven continents, and this truly was one of the most amazing sites
that I have had the opportunity to view.
It was glacially, artistically, and spiritually awesome.
